The ingredients needed to cook Macher Paturi:
  1. Get 8-10 Medium sized fish fillets (Bhetki/Hilsa preferred)
  2. You need 2-3 green chilies
  3. Get 8-10 green chilies slit
  4. You need to taste Salt
  5. Provide to taste Juice of 1 Gondhoraj/ Regular lemon
  6. Use 2 tablespoons Mustard seeds
  7. Take 1 tablespoon Poppy seeds
  8. You need 1/4 cup grated coconut
  9. You need 2 tsp turmeric powder
  10. Prepare 1 teaspoon sugar
  11. Get 2 tbsp mustard oil
  12. Prepare Banana leaf to wrap and thread to tie
Instructions to make Macher Paturi:
  1. In a blender, add Mustard seeds, poppy seeds, coconut, 2-3 greens chilies and a pinch of salt with little water, grind to smooth paste
  2. Add sugar, turmeric powder and lime juice to it, check for seasoning and grind to smooth consistency
  3. Coat the fish pieces gently with the marinade and rub them with your fingers. Rest aside for 30 minutes or Refrigerate for 2 hours
  4. Once the marination is done, pour in the 1 tbsp mustard oil and mix it well
  5. Cut the banana leaf into 8 inches square and pass it over flame without burning it, this will help in folding the leaves
  6. Rub the mustard oil on glossy part of the leaf. Place a piece of fish at the centre and add some marinade to it
  7. Place one green chilli on top of it.Fold the leaf from each side and make it a square parcel
  8. Wrap it with the thread so that it doesn’t open while cooking, Wrap the rest of the fish pieces in similar way, there should be individual parcels for each piece
  9. Heat water in steamer.Add the parcels into the steaming rack and steam for 10 minutes over medium heat
  10. Remove from steamer, discard the threads from the parcels
  11. Open and serve hot with rice
